This role supports the accounting team by assisting with month-end close activities, account reconciliations, journal entries, accounts payable, and financial analysis. This position works closely with the Senior Accountant and Accounting Manager to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.

Position: Property Accountant

Compensation & Benefits
- Base Salary: $65K- $85K (commensurate with experience
- Eligible for year-end and performance-based bonuses

We are seeking a Property Accountant to join our growing Chicago-based real estate investment firm. This role supports the accounting team by assisting with month-end close activities, account reconciliations, journal entries, accounts payable, and financial analysis. This position works closely with the Senior Accountant and Accounting Manager to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and research outstanding items.
- Prepare and post journal entries and supporting documentation.
- Assist with month-end close activities and account reconciliations.
- Perform utility variance analysis and investigate significant fluctuations.
- Provide support for accounts payable processes, including invoice review and vendor inquiries.
- Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting schedules.
- Assist with audit requests and other accounting projects as assigned.
- Ad-hoc projects as necessary
Qualifications
Required
- 2-4 years of experience in accounting; real estate a plus
- Working knowledge of month end closing procedures
- Core competencies in financial statement preparation
- Creative thinker with the ability to tackle and resolve issues on a real time basis
- Strong analytical skills including proficiency in Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP)
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize workflow
- Understanding of GAAP
- Real estate, multifamily, or property accounting experience
- Yardi Voyager experience
- Experience with partnership accounting
- Experience working with multiple legal entities
